Xero Bookkeeping & Financial Reporting Training
Learn to manage your books properly using your own Xero data.
Generic Xero tutorials can show you where the buttons are. This programme is designed to help you understand how bookkeeping and financial reporting work inside your own business.
JOE CA provides practical one-on-one training using your live Xero records, helping you or your staff build the skills, routines and documented procedures needed to maintain accurate accounts and produce useful month-end information.
Is this training for you?
The programme can suit:
No formal bookkeeping experience is required. Training starts from your current level and focuses on the accounting concepts and Xero tasks relevant to your role.
- Business owners who want to manage their own bookkeeping.
- Staff responsible for bookkeeping or financial administration.
- Businesses wanting a more consistent bookkeeping process.
- Owners who want to understand their financial reports rather than relying entirely on someone else.
- Businesses wanting documented procedures that current and future team members can follow.
- People with little or no formal bookkeeping experience who want to learn using their own business records.
Learn using your actual business records
Instead of working through generic examples, the training uses your own live Xero data and the transactions your business actually deals with.
Training is delivered online through one-on-one screen sharing, allowing Joe to work through your accounting processes with you in real time.
The online screen-sharing component is around 45 minutes, with the exact session format tailored to the business.
More than one person from the same business can participate where that helps establish a consistent way of working.
Training built around:
- Your Xero data.
- Your transactions.
- Your bookkeeping processes.
- Your reporting requirements.
- Questions that arise from your actual business.
What will you work on?
The exact content is tailored to your role and your business. It can include:
Day-to-day bookkeeping
Develop your understanding of the bookkeeping concepts behind the work and how to process the transactions relevant to your role in Xero.
Account reconciliations
Learn how to reconcile your accounts and identify missing, incorrect or unusual transactions.
Month-end processes
Develop a repeatable process for reviewing the accounts at the end of each month and making sure the records are in a useful state.
Budgeting
Build an understanding of budgeting and how financial targets can be used as part of managing the business.
Financial reporting
Learn how to produce and work with financial reports so the information can be used to understand business performance.
Better bookkeeping processes
Identify ways to improve the quality, consistency and efficiency of your existing bookkeeping workflow.
Build the skills between sessions
The programme runs over six months, with one session each month. The time between sessions is part of the learning process.
At the next session, Joe reviews the work with you, answers questions and builds on what you've already learned. Support between sessions is also available as part of the programme.
The goal is to become increasingly self-sufficient in maintaining accurate records and producing reconciled month-end financial information.
You'll practise agreed tasks using your own business records, such as:
- Coding transactions.
- Reconciling accounts.
- Reviewing bookkeeping work.
- Preparing reports.
- Following the agreed month-end process.
What you leave with
Finish with documented procedures for your business
The programme isn't just about what one person learns.
As the training progresses, Joe works with you to develop written Standard Operating Procedures around the way your business actually handles bookkeeping, month-end checks and reporting. Participants help test the steps so the procedures are practical and easy to follow.
At the end of the programme, the completed procedures are supplied electronically as an editable Word document.

- Everyday bookkeeping.
- Month-end checks.
- Budgeting and reporting processes.
- Maintaining consistency.
- Training another team member in the future.
More than learning where to click
Knowing how to use Xero software is only part of good bookkeeping. You also need to understand what the transactions mean, why the accounts need to reconcile and how the resulting information is used for reporting.
Joe combines accounting expertise with a teaching background, so the focus is on helping you understand both the process and the reasoning behind it. You'll work through the accounting concepts and Xero tasks that matter to your role and your business.
